But that's a different rant. This one, in typical FIFA tradition is about the refs.
That first goal being pulled back still does not sit right with me. If the player is offside, make the call. Raise the flag. Stop the play. Do what they did later (though I wish they hadn't because it robbed Nyland of a save, I can respect it as being the right call made at the right time). It would have been one thing to raise the flag before the shot happened. It is a whole different thing to let the whole thing run, let the goal happen, let everyone celebrate it, and then decide the goal was no good.
The second half stoppage time wasn't much better.
They were eight minutes into seven minutes of stoppage time when they called a soft foul. It felt like someone in black deciding Brazil should not have to walk out of there with a goose egg.
And then it kept going. Another two minutes and some change, bringing the total stoppage to over 10.
Long enough to make you wonder if the plan was not just to spare Brazil the shutout, but to give them one last chance to drag Norway into penalties and let the keepers sort it out.
In the end though I suppose it doesn't matter. Norway held.
Nyland stood tall. Schjelderup and Nusa ran like the match owed them money. Haaland...well Haaland did what he's done this entire World Cup run, smiled, scored goals, and smiled some more.
Brazil got their late gift, but Norway got the win.
